Netflix and Globo’s 18-Title Deal: Known Titles, Rights and Rollout

The package licenses existing Globo productions. The named films, telenovela and sitcom have distinct market rights, and only some titles are already publicly identified.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Netflix and Globo announced a license for 18 existing Globo productions: 14 films, three telenovelas and one series, with releases scheduled from December 2026 through mid-2027.
  • The named works have different rights: I’m Still Here is licensed for Brazil only, Vitória has worldwide distribution, India – A Love Story covers the U.S. and Latin America excluding Brazil, and Vai Que Cola’s first seven seasons are licensed for Brazil.
  • Globo says some named works are already on Globoplay and will also reach Netflix. The companies have not published a full title-by-title list or individual release dates for all 18.

This is a catalogue license, not an 18-show commission

Netflix and Globo announced the agreement on October 19, 2026. The package contains 18 Globo productions: 14 films, three telenovelas and one series. Netflix calls it the largest licensing agreement the two companies have signed, and says the works will arrive on its service from December through mid-2027.

The wording matters: these are Globo originals being licensed to Netflix, not 18 new shows Netflix has commissioned Globo to make. The release gives a package count and selected examples, but no financial value for the deal. Its “largest” label is scoped to the two companies’ own licensing history rather than every streaming agreement. It also says the works will be dubbed and subtitled in multiple languages while their licenses cover different territories.

The film examples span two different rights footprints

Walter Salles’s I’m Still Here, released in Portuguese as Ainda Estou Aqui, won the 2025 Academy Award for Best International Feature and is licensed to Netflix for Brazil only. Globo’s own Gshow official synopsis places the drama in Rio de Janeiro in 1971: Eunice Paiva must rebuild her life after her family suffers violence by the Brazilian state. The story detail gives viewers context for the award-winning title without changing the announced territorial limit.

Vitória, directed by Andrucha Waddington and starring Fernanda Montenegro, has worldwide distribution under the Netflix–Globo announcement. Globo Filmes describes it as inspired by a true story about a retired woman who records activity from her Rio apartment window and helps expose a dangerous group involving traffickers and police. The two films therefore bring very different stories into the same licensing package, while their Netflix rights cover different audiences.

The same Gshow page records a separate Telecine Pipoca Globo de Ouro special: Central do Brasil was listed for Sunday (11) at 15:40 and Ainda Estou Aqui at 17:40, and the page said Telecine titles were available through Globoplay, Prime Video Channels and operators. That schedule is earlier broadcast context, not a current availability guarantee or part of Netflix’s December rollout.

India – A Love Story and Caminho das Índias are the same novela

The announced telenovela India – A Love Story is called Caminho das Índias in Portuguese. Globo’s own catalogue page describes the 2009 romance as a story set in India and Brazil, following Maya and Raj through an arranged marriage. Netflix credits writer Glória Perez and director Marcos Schechtman; the title won the 2009 International Emmy for Best Telenovela.

Netflix’s license for this title covers the United States and Latin America, excluding Brazil. That phrase names a broad rights region, not an itemized list of every country or a guarantee about a specific release date in each market. The Portuguese and English names refer to one work. Globoplay lists 203 chapters, but the deal still counts it as one telenovela; its opening synopsis touches Maya meeting Bahuan, Raj proposing to Duda, Shankar adopting Bahuan and an office dispute between Ramiro and Raul. Those intersecting threads show how the long serial is built beyond the central romance. Another chapter synopsis notes Bahuan questioning whether Maya would marry a Dalit.

Seven seasons of Vai Que Cola count as one series

The package’s single series entry is the comedy Vai Que Cola. Netflix identifies its creator as Leandro Soares and its directors as João Fonseca and Regis Faria, and says the first seven seasons are licensed for Brazil. The season count is not the same as the work count: seven seasons fit under the one-series slot in the 18-production package.

Globoplay’s current first-season page displays 37 episodes. It opens with Valdomiro, fleeing the police, hiding in Dona Jô’s boarding house; he changes his appearance, but the residents recognize him. The count applies to Season 1 only. Netflix licenses the first seven seasons, but neither company gives a combined episode total. The page lists the first and third episodes at one hour and the second at 43 minutes. The boarding-house ensemble is distinct from the films and telenovela in the package.

Some titles will appear on both Globoplay and Netflix

Globo says that some of the announced works are already available on Globoplay and will also be available on Netflix. Its announcement specifically links to Ainda Estou Aqui and Caminho das Índias as current Globoplay titles. That detail makes the deal easier to read: at least for those works, the public statement describes an additional viewing service rather than a removal from the existing catalogue.

This overlap should not be generalized to all 18 productions. The announcement does not say that every title is currently on Globoplay, nor does it publish a complete platform-by-platform exclusivity table. A territory license, a title’s current service listing and an upcoming Netflix date are separate pieces of information.

Vitória’s production credits are separate from its Netflix license

Globo Filmes lists Conspiração as producer and Globoplay and MyMama Entertainment as co-producers of Vitória, lists Paula Fiúza as screenwriter, and names Sony Pictures as distributor. The public release does not explain how that streaming window interacts with earlier or other distribution arrangements.

Production credits, a title’s catalogue listing and a new streaming license describe different parts of a work’s path to viewers. The Netflix–Globo notice gives selected territory terms and a rollout window, not a complete account of every media right attached to each film.

The rollout spans months, but individual dates are missing

Netflix, Globo and Folha de S.Paulo describe a rollout that begins in December 2026 and continues through the middle of 2027. The companies also promise dubbing and subtitles in multiple languages. The public notices do not give a separate launch date for each title, season or territory, so December marks the opening of the window rather than a confirmed same-day release for the whole package.

The companies have also not published a complete title-by-title list of all 18 productions in the announcements reviewed here. Folha reports that only one of the three telenovelas was named in its coverage, leaving the other two titles unidentified there. A full matrix of titles, countries and dates cannot yet be reconstructed from those public notices.

Check country, release timing and language separately

For viewers, three questions answer three different things: does the announced license include your country, when is the title scheduled to appear there, and will the service offer a preferred subtitle or dub? The package announcement provides clear answers for selected titles but leaves many individual rows blank. It is safer to check a title’s local Netflix page as the rollout reaches each market than to assume that a worldwide announcement makes every work immediately available everywhere.
