The Lincoln Lawyer Will End With a March 2027 Final Season

Michael Connelly says the fifth season of The Lincoln Lawyer will arrive in March 2027, a month Collider and Netflix Life both report without a day of the month. Season 5 wrapped filming in July 2026 after a spring and summer shoot, and neither outlet has a confirmation from Netflix, which could still move the date.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Michael Connelly says the fifth season of The Lincoln Lawyer will arrive in March 2027, a month Collider and Netflix Life both report without a day of the month.
  • Season 5 wrapped filming in July 2026 after a spring and summer shoot, and neither outlet has a confirmation from Netflix, which could still move the date.
  • Collider reports the season will conclude the courtroom drama, with a spin-off built around Cobie Smulders' character in development at the same time.

A month, not a date

Michael Connelly says the fifth season of The Lincoln Lawyer will arrive in March 2027. The author gave the month during a promotional question-and-answer session, and both Collider and Netflix Life picked it up within a day. Neither outlet has a day of the month, and neither has a confirmation from Netflix. What exists is a month, a year and the word of the man who wrote the novels the series is built on.

The two reports frame the news differently. Collider treats it as the last piece of a timeline it has been assembling, noting that Connelly had already confirmed the return year as 2027 before he added the month. Netflix Life treats it as the answer to a question it had been asking since production restarted, and repeats that the reveal is not an official announcement from the streaming service.

Where the answer came from

Collider reports that Connelly was promoting The Hollow, his new Harry Bosch novel, when he discussed the future of the Netflix drama, and that the specifics came during a Q&A shared by The Spokesman-Review. Netflix Life describes the same setting as a promotional appearance with The Spokesman-Review and dates the remark to that interview rather than to any Netflix event.

The sentence both outlets carry is short. Connelly said a season is finished and will come out in March. He did not name a date, a trailer or an episode count, and neither outlet adds one. Netflix Life is explicit that Connelly's reveal is far from an official release date announcement. That leaves the month as an author's statement about a finished season rather than a scheduling decision published by the company that will stream it. Both outlets name The Spokesman-Review as the setting rather than a Netflix press event, which is why the month reads as an aside rather than a launch.

Filming wrapped in July

Netflix Life reports that the cast and crew returned to production in the spring and worked into the summer, and that season 5 wrapped filming in July 2026. It also records that Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, who plays Mickey Haller, posted a goodbye message to the series and the character at that point. Collider does not carry the July date or the post.

Post-production is why the wait extends into 2027 in Netflix Life's account. The outlet reasons that the final season would need the rest of the year to finish, which is why a launch in 2027 had been the working assumption before Connelly spoke. Collider's version of the same gap is institutional rather than technical: the drama has run four seasons, it says, and the fifth will conclude it. Neither outlet says how many episodes the final season runs, which leaves the March window as the only production milestone published beyond the July wrap.

Netflix has not said it

Netflix renewed The Lincoln Lawyer for a fifth season ahead of the fourth season's premiere, Collider reports, and that fifth season will conclude the courtroom drama. The order was placed before the audience for season 4 existed, which is unusual for a show being closed rather than extended. Netflix Life notes that the series has never released two seasons in the same calendar year, which is why a 2027 launch was the assumption well before the month arrived.

Both outlets leave room for movement. Netflix Life writes that the date could still shift, and that Connelly's tease is not set in stone until Netflix says so, while expecting an official announcement from the service, possibly before 2026 ends. Collider's phrasing is softer still: season 5 is expected to premiere in March 2027. Neither outlet reports a delay, and neither reports a locked booking.

Why the show ends at five

Collider describes the renewal as a difficult pill for fans, given that more seasons looked available in the character. It also reports that Connelly expressed his feelings about Netflix deciding to end the show after five seasons, suggesting he was not in support of the choice. That is the closest either outlet comes to an explanation, and it is attributed to the author rather than to the service. Neither paper puts the decision to Netflix directly, and neither prints a statement from the service.

The show's creator and writer, Ted Humphrey, told Collider in an earlier interview that the team could have kept the show going for another season or two and had ideas for it. Collider prints that as evidence the series was not exhausted. Netflix Life reaches a similar conclusion from outside, writing that the decision was puzzling for viewers because the show had held its popularity and quality through five seasons.

A spin-off waiting behind it

A second series in the same world is in development. Collider reports that the season 4 finale revealed Mickey Haller had a half-sister, Emi Finch, whom he never knew about, that Cobie Smulders will reprise the role, and that Netflix intends to lean on the new character. Neither outlet knows whether Mickey appears in it. Collider says there is no word yet, and Netflix Life says Smulders' character will play a large part in season 5 first.

Related coverage on this site includes the fifth season renewal for The Diplomat, the long-delayed ending of Criminal Minds: Evolution and the third season of The Pitt. The month is the news in both reports. The rest of the record is a renewal placed early, a shoot that finished in July and a spin-off with no schedule.
