THE SHORT VERSION

  • Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green will star in an untitled vertical thriller microdrama for vertTV, Deadline reports, with production recently wrapped in Los Angeles.
  • The Hollywood Reporter has the same two names and adds Carol Potter, who played Cindy Walsh, plus the character names Donna Martin and David Silver and a Wednesday wrap.
  • The two papers agree on the writer-director Theo Buckwald and five producers, and they describe vertTV's launch, its slate and its no-generative-AI policy in different detail.

Two 90210 Stars, One Vertical Series

Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green will star in a new vertical microdrama for vertTV, Deadline reports. The two Beverly Hills, 90210 castmates reunite in the series, which the trade says recently wrapped production in Los Angeles. Deadline calls the project a vertical microdrama and says the pair were tapped to star; it gives no character name for either of them and no episode count. The item labels the show an as-yet untitled thriller, and that is the only genre description it carries.

The Hollywood Reporter has the same two names in the same project and frames the news as a reunion. Its report says the pair have reunited in the scripted microdrama world and that both are starring in an untitled original thriller microseries for vertTV. The paper adds that this is the first vertical microseries for either of them, a detail Deadline does not print. Where Deadline has them tapped, the Reporter has them already reunited: one verb looks forward to a deal, the other back at a partnership that has finished shooting.

Carol Potter Joins the Reunion

Carol Potter, who played Cindy Walsh in the Fox series, is the third 90210 name in the cast. Deadline identifies her as the mother of the twins Brenda and Brandon Walsh and says she will be featured in the microdrama. That is the whole of her part in Deadline's item: no character beyond Cindy Walsh, no scene described, no indication of how much of the series she carries.

The Reporter gives Potter a longer line and puts the rest of the family around her. It names Brenda as Shannen Doherty and Brandon as Jason Priestley, calls Potter a 90210 alum, and notes that she is a former co-star of the two leads. Deadline names the twins without the actors who played them. Neither paper says whether Potter shares a scene with Spelling or Green, and neither says whether the three characters are meant to know one another in the new series.

A Wrap Date and Five Producers

The two papers date the shoot differently. Deadline says production recently wrapped in Los Angeles. The Reporter says production wrapped Wednesday in Los Angeles, which fixes a day of the week that Deadline leaves open. Same city, same finished shoot, two different clocks, and neither paper says how long the shoot ran or when it started.

The credits agree. Both name Theo Buckwald as writer and director, and both list Barry Barnholtz, Peter Sullivan, Ben Rosenthal, Brian Nolan and Jeffrey Schenck as producers. The Reporter puts it as the five sharing the producer credits; Deadline runs the same five through one sentence without ranking them. Neither item names an executive producer, a director of photography, a casting director or a distributor, and neither gives a budget or an episode count.

Untitled, With Plot Under Wraps

There is no title and no plot. Deadline writes that plot details are being kept under wraps and calls the project as-yet untitled. The Reporter writes that there are no plot details for the thriller. Both sentences describe what the press has been given rather than what the series contains, and neither paper speculates about the story, the setting or the running time.

What the items do establish is a format. Both call the project a vertical microdrama or microseries, both place it at vertTV, and both describe it as scripted. Neither says how long an episode runs, how many episodes exist, or where the series will be seen beyond vertTV's own app. Neither carries a first-look image, a trailer or a launch date, so the only timing in either item is the wrap.

vertTV's Slate, Dated Two Ways

Deadline fills in the surrounding slate. It says vertTV's most recent original series, the supernatural thriller Bite Club, premiered on the app last week after a world premiere at the ALZA Festival in New York City earlier this month, reuniting Barbara Crampton and Russell Todd on the 40th anniversary of Chopping Mall. It also lists Finding Hope, with Jodie Sweetin, John Brotherton and Marla Sokoloff alongside Richard Karn, and Chonda, with Chonda Pierce and Regan Burns.

The Reporter describes the company instead of the premieres. It dates vertTV's launch to July 2026, names Jeffrey Schenck, Barry Barnholtz and Peter Sullivan as the Hollywood veterans who started it, and says the studio has made more than 200 TV movies for Lifetime and Hallmark. It cites Lone Star Hearts, with Cindy Busby and Josh Henderson, among the bite-sized dramas the studio is betting on. Deadline calls vertTV Los Angeles-based and gives no launch date. The two papers also file Chonda under different labels: Deadline calls it the format's first multicam sitcom, the Reporter a vertical fish-out-of-water comedy.

A Boom, an App and AI

Both papers treat the format as a growth business, on different evidence. Deadline says vertical microdramas keep gaining traction because they meet viewers on mobile phones, and it notes that Peacock has announced Bravo's first scripted microdrama, Charmed by a Southern Monster, starring Craig Conover, premiering Monday, November 9, with Nicole Mattox co-starring. The Reporter says microdrama production is booming in North America and elsewhere while Hollywood spending on traditional content for linear TV and streaming is in decline, and it notes that vertTV launched with a standalone app for iOS and Android.

On one point the two papers say the same thing about method. Deadline says the studio shoots every series with real actors on real sets and without generative AI. The Reporter says the vertical sector has been inundated with AI-generated titles and that vertTV insists it shoots with real actors on real sets and without generative AI. Related coverage on this site includes the one-day production behind another returning series, a showrunner's exit at Peacock and a long-running drama closing its run.
