Nine more shows take the tour to 35 dates

Powderfinger announced nine additional shows for its 2027 reunion tour on Friday, Oct. 30, presenting them as an “Encore Run” that stretches the schedule into December 2027. Billboard reports that the new wave lifts the national tour to 35 dates, up from the 26 first announced. The same report describes the reunion as an odyssey still stretching out, and notes that the band had already been expected to add shows. Rolling Stone Australia frames the announcement as the answer to a promise made earlier in October, when the band said further cities and dates would follow.

The nine additions on Billboard’s schedule run from Nov. 5 to Dec. 11 and appear under the heading “Powderfinger’s Encore Run 2027.” Rolling Stone Australia prints only the two closing Brisbane dates from that stretch and sends readers to the band’s website for the rest of the list. Neither report gives a capacity figure for the enlarged run, and neither says how many tickets each of the nine new shows will hold. What both establish is the shape of the expansion: nine nights, five cities, and a run that now ends a month later than the originally announced routing.

Hobart and Canberra join the route for the first time

Two of the new nights are in cities the tour had not reached. Billboard reports two shows at Cornelian Bay Oval in Hobart, Tasmania, on Nov. 13 and Nov. 14, and one at Stage 88 in Canberra on Dec. 4. Rolling Stone Australia describes the same additions as new shows in Hobart and Canberra, the two markets the band’s own statement singles out. For listeners in Tasmania and the capital, the Encore Run is the only part of the 2027 routing that reaches them.

The other five dates extend stops already on the route. Melbourne Park Oval takes two more nights, Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, where Billboard says the band’s “stadium-sized tent” will be pitched again. Sandalford Estate in Perth takes two more, Nov. 20 and Nov. 21, which the report describes as two additional concerts for Western Australia. Rolling Stone Australia summarises the whole announcement as new shows in Hobart and Canberra with added dates in Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, so both reports agree on where the extra capacity goes.

The run finishes with two nights in Brisbane

Billboard reports that the tour will end where it began, with two concerts at the Brisbane Showgrounds on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11, and quotes a statement calling them an “all Bris-band celebration and a tribute to their hometown.” Rolling Stone Australia lists the same pair as Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11 at Brisbane Showgrounds (Outdoors) in Brisbane, Queensland, a weekday match that fits the 2027 calendar.

The band’s attachment to the city runs through Billboard’s framing. The report notes that Powderfinger come from Brisbane, which it calls the 2032 Olympic City, and that the group is known locally as the ’Finger. Beyond the two concerts, neither report describes anything further: no guest list, no benefit element, no second stage and no announced support beyond the bill carried by both outlets.

The stated reason is demand: 300,000 tickets in days

The reason given for the additions is demand. Billboard reports that the initial batch of 26 shows, more than 300,000 tickets, sold out in days. Bernard Fanning, quoted on behalf of the band, says: “When we saw how many people missed out on tickets, we knew we couldn’t leave it there.” In the same statement he says the band is adding “some final shows,” that it was able to include Hobart and Canberra, and that “some very talented mates” are joining the bill.

The two reports differ on the sale details. Billboard says pre-sales for the Encore Run open on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at powderfinger.com, with the general on-sale beginning Thursday, Nov. 5. Rolling Stone Australia supplies the hours: pre-sales at 10am on Wednesday, Nov. 4, then general public tickets at 11am local time on Thursday, Nov. 5. The dates match, and only one of the two reports gives times. Neither says how the new dates will be allocated across the five cities.

An all-Australian support bill, with one gap

Both reports carry the same all-Australian support bill for the new dates: Ocean Alley, Violent Soho, The Living End, Ball Park Music, John Butler Trio, Something For Kate, Thelma Plum, DMA’S, You Am I, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Preatures, The Belair Lip Bombs, Luca Brasi, Full Flower Moon Band, South Summit, Carla Geneve, Banjo Lucia and Special Features. Rolling Stone Australia describes the list as confirmed for the newly announced shows rather than for the tour as a whole.

Billboard’s date list assigns named acts to individual nights. The first Melbourne concert pairs Something For Kate with The Belair Lip Bombs; the first Hobart night brings DMA’S, Thelma Plum and Full Flower Moon Band; the first Brisbane show adds The Living End, You Am I and Special Features. The one open item comes from Rolling Stone Australia, which states that support acts for the previously announced shows are still to come. Billboard does not address those earlier bills, so a ticket-holder for one of the 26 original dates has a confirmed headliner and, on these two reports, no confirmed opener.

The classic line-up, the record and the partners

Billboard identifies the returning line-up as Bernard Fanning on vocals, Ian Haug and Darren Middleton on guitars, John “JC” Collins on bass and Jon Coghill on drums, and describes the tour as the band’s first in 17 years. It records five consecutive ARIA No. 1 albums, 18 ARIA Awards and three APRA Awards, two of them for song of the year, and notes that the group called time with a 34-date national trek in 2010. It adds that in a July 2025 triple j countdown of the greatest homegrown songs, Powderfinger placed more tracks in the top 100, four including a Fanning solo number, than any other act.

The same report says the 2027 tour will partner with Mission Australia, and that Dew Process Artist Management, Cornershop Agency and Live Nation are partnering on the trek. It also carries a line addressed to a market left off the route: “Adelaide fans, you haven’t been forgotten. Hang in there.” No Adelaide date appears in either report, and neither says when or whether one will be added.
